Mr. Kittipong Kittikachorn, General Manager of Suvarnabhumi Airport, Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) has announced comprehensive preparations for New Year 2025 travel period, following with a directive from Mr. Suriya Jungrungreangkit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport. Several initiatives will be implemented to ensure a convenient, safety and cost effective travel experiences for passengers throughout the holiday season.
To accommodate the anticipated increase in passengers number Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) has coordinated with airlines, government agencies, and service providers to prepare various aspects of service. This involves increasing the frequency of restroom cleaning, ensuring an adequate number of luggage trolleys, and working with ground service providers to ensure sufficient staffs and equipments during peak hours. The airport is also promoting the use of technology in departure processes to reduce waiting times. These technologies include Common Use Self Service (CUSS), Common Use Bag Drop (CUBD), Automated Biometric Identification System (Biometric), and Automated Border Control (ABC) machines, which can read E-Passports from more than 90 countries worldwide.
Mr. Kittipong added that, as part of the Transport Ministry's New Year gift policy, BKK will offer free parking at the long-term parking Zone C from 00:01 hrs on December 28, 2024, to 24:00 hrs on January 1, 2025 (five days in total). The parking area, which can accommodate 718 vehicles, will be connected to the passenger terminal by a 24-hour shuttle bus service running every 15 minutes. In addition to free parking, the airport will distribute travel kits to passengers and provide BKK-branded drinking water at various points throughout the terminal.
The airport expects 2.4 million passengers to travel through Suvarnabhumi between December 25, 2024, and January 5, 2025, a 16.58% increase compared to the same period last year. This includes 1.97 million international and 480,000 domestic passengers, averaging 200,000 passengers daily. Flight operations during this period are projected to reach 13,000 flights, a 14.69% increase from last year, comprising 10,000 international flights and 3,000 domestic flights, or an average of 1,000 flights daily.
